Colloquium 'Unconventional Models of Computation'

The colloquium is devoted to various aspects of unconventional computation, with contributions ranging from theory to experiments and applications. Some of the topics that will be covered include molecular and membrane computing, nature-inspired computational paradigms, algorithmic bioprocesses.

This colloquium will gather together major scientists working in both theoretical and experimental aspects of the field, with the goal of discussing past and present research as well as prospectives for future applications.

This colloquium is held in honor of Giancarlo Mauri, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Giancarlo Mauri has influenced many of us over the years during the course of his extensive research. His contributions cover several different areas of Computer Science: formal languages and automata, algorithms and computational complexity, computational learning theory, neural networks, cellular automata, and, in the last years, bioinformatics and natural computing. In these areas, he has published more than 200 scientific papers in international journals, contributed volumes and conference proceedings.

He has been President of the Italian chapter of EATCS (European Association of Theoretical Computer Science) from 1991 to 1998, President of the Working Group IFIP (International Federation of Information Processing) on Cellular Automata from 1998 to 2003, and he is the Secretary of EMCC (European Molecular Computing Consortium) since 1999.

Conference Location

The colloquium is co-located with ICTCS, the 11th Italian Conference on Theoretical Computer Science, and it will be held on September 28, 2009. Partecipation to the colloquium is free.
